Nairobi or Johannesburg?

Hi,

I'm an American currently living in Hong Kong with my husband, twelve-year-old daughter and tiny dog. A job has come up in Africa that my husband is considering applying for. It is listed as Nairobi, but evidently could also probably be located in Johannesburg. We need to decide if we want for him to apply at all, but if so, where would we rather be? Any advice from those with some experience of both cities would be so helpful. My husband is concerned primarily about safety in both places. Also, we are long-time secular homeschoolers and our other major concern is finding homeschoolers either place, although there seem to be plenty in Jo'burg. Anyone know any homeschoolers, particularly of older children, in Nairobi? Any info would be greatly appreciated and help us make this decision.
