Which secondary schools good?
Hi everyone,
From reading around a bit, I get the impression that there is some debate about whether to send kids to secondary school in Nairobi as opposed to boarding school in Europe. Is this a concern because people don't think the secondary schools are any good, or is it because they are too expensive, or is it a UK thing where parents would like their kids to experience "UK culture" before going to university? Do you have any recommendations about secondary schools (either American or British style) that are good? Thanks very much!
Regards,
Juniper

Good Secondary Schools in Nairobi
Good secondary schools in Nairobi are Peponi Secondary (weekly boarding), Hillcrest and International school Kenya. Outside Nairobi, St Andrews Turi is also popular.
Re UK boarding schools. I think this is a cost issue. Kenya schools do not have as good facilities as those in UK but they do get good results and charge half the price. UK boarding schools are now pushing 10,000 UK pounds per term, then you have to look at flights during holidays and half terms - then consider if your child will be happy to be living on another continent. Many people in Nairobi to send their kids back to UK but very gradually, a few expats are beginning to prefer to keep their kids here in Kenya, then send children to UK at 6th form level or university. My eldest is 10, so haven't actually faced this yet, but am erring on the side of keeping her here in Kenya since my husband's employer does not help out with school fees.
