First post! Woo!

Anyway, hoping this takes off... I'll be moving to Nairobi in a couple of months, so the site has been a goldmine of useful info already - thanks!

First Post! Empty Moving to Nairobi - First Post

Post  Admin Fri Jul 03, 2009 10:27 am

Hi,

Apologies for the late response - as you can see I am pretty useless at this forum business - but trying to catch up fast!

I really do hope that this will be useful a way for you to get some good/practical information about moving to Nairobi. We have been here for six and a half years and love it.

Thanks for supporting the forum - do ask away if there is anything you need to know.

Just wanted to say Hi! and introduce myself. I've been following your blog for about a year now and its brilliant. We have been over to Kenya four times now, and to Tanzania and Zanzibar and we got married there in 2005. Our master plan is to come out there in about 10 years and hopefully buy/lease a ranch in the far south (Il-Bissil area). I've been really slowly learning Swahili and trying to pick up pointers on life in general and you have been a great help on not just the legals etc, but the emotional pitfall too ! Hope to chat along the way. Very Happy T

Hey Tracie,

Sounds like a plan and a half - that's amazing! Good for you learning Swahili. I think that it's a big help - though always hard when you are not near people speaking it.

How romantic that you married in Zanzibar! (or was in TZ?) We had our honeymoon there in 1999 and were both horrendously sick, having just arrived from London in February - I had never been to Africa before.

Just wanted to thank you for starting this - great idea. Followed your blog for ages and picked up lots of interesting snippets of info and had a few smiles along the way!

The clever (well, most of the time) husband is in Kenya at the moment and I hope to be trotting out there in a few weeks...bracing myself for the Sarit Center Blues and and the I'm Knackered-Mate (Nakumatt) trips Rolling Eyes

Thanks again,

Hey H,
Glad this and the blog have been of some help.

Not sure if it's just because I have been 'spoiled' by my trip to UK, but currently feeling very uninspired while trailing around Nakumatt at the moment! Some people bring food back with them from home leave to spice up their return, though I just have visions of suitcases in Lost Luggage, filled with mouldy ham and fruity cheese, so have never been brave enough. (my suitcase once got lost in the blackhole of Heathrow for 3 weeks).

Hope you have a good trip out and that your husband is surviving whilst alone!

nb. power rationing starting here next week., KPLC are scheduling 2.5 days without power per household, per week - info in the local papers today.

Evil piccy in head of festering heaps of food lurking at the airport!! Husband has already given me a heads up re KP&L probs although difficult to tell the diff as we seem to spend quite a lot of time listening to the gentle thrum of the genny - he would probably have me peddling like a demon on some type of wheeled set up to generate the sparks if he got his own way (that's an idea I'll be keeping to myself)!
