Help with furnishing accomodation
Hi there - recently arrived and trying to sort out accomodation ....most of the furnished are not quite what I'm looking for .
Do you have any hints and tips who to contact for bargains in the cooker ,fridge etc department , whether new or used ..maybe an expat returning home and looking to have a bit of a clearence .
Anyhoo - any local advice would be most welcome so that I can factor in the costs when looking at unfurnished !
Thnx

Re: Help with furnishing accomodation
Hi,
If you are looking for expats selling off furniture your best bet is to head down to the shopping centres where they have notice boards advertising stuff like that. I think definitely the best one to go to is the Sarit centre in Westlands. It has a huge notice board with all sorts of things for sale.
There is also a pretty good website... Www.dealfish.co.ke ........ Second hand stuff again.
If you want to buy new furniture at a cheaper price than nakumatt or other stores, you can get pretty much get anything from the side of Ngong road which is the main road out to Karen. Some of it isn't the best quality but you can get stuff made and if you are specific about how you want it, it can can be really good... This may take some negotiations on price tho' as you could end up paying over the odds!
Hope this helps!

Furnishings etc
Do check out free publications/papers/magasines distributed at Dormans Coffee and Cinemas etc. Xpatlink, Kenya Buzz etc probably have a fair selection of second hand stuff on sale.
I do find that some leaving expats do naughtily charge too much considering they are selling second hand goods. They often ask more than the 'new' price back home. It's worth checking out Nakumatt for price checks before committing to anything.
