Nairobi for 3 months
Hi, I am moving to Kenya in December for the next 3 months and I am looking for an affordable studio or small flat to rent (max. Ksh 40000) in a safe area. But I am wondering if such a thing really exists as it seems that prizes in Nairobi use to be much higher. On the other side I´ve had an offer for 13500 in Ngong Road (Woodley Estate) but I don't know if this place is safe enough... so which are the areas in the city safe and affordable at the same time, if they exist? thanks in advance

Hi there,
Congrats on your 3 month gig. You are v. lucky to go there in this winter season and we envy your ability to work there.
Now having said that, where does one stay. I assume you are German from your ID so you will most likely be seen (sometimes unfairly) as well-to-do. In general, always ask for a better price and dont settle for the first figure- its expected. Having said that, I know Nbi very well. Your 44, 000 can get you a good penthouse 2br and bath in a nice area like Kileleshwa, lavington or so. You didnt mention where you will work as that could be an important factor. Traffic in Nbi can be very brutal, so plan carefully. If you work in downtown 8-5 daily, then the above places are good. Woodley too is kinda good- they are 3br ranch homes fomerly ofr the city council. Verify it is these. If not, then ask where exactly, I can guide you on this. Reason being that woodley borders Kibera- yes THE slum of the city. Not the worst, but you get the idea. Ngong Rd too can be 45min to commute daily on to the citycenter.
You can also go type HassConsult in google and you will get a rental site. lil pricey but good. If you are serious, let me know and I can get you in touch with some people for short-term stay of 3 months.
