parks/playgrounds?
Curious if there are any free parks or playgrounds around the Langata area of Nairobi (or beyond)? Anyone been to Uhuru Gardens? is it a good place to go for walks? My little one has just start walking and I'm looking for outdoor places to take him to get some exercise for both him and myself (the local malls are getting boring..)
thanks,

parks/playgrounds response
A couple of places immediately spring to mind.
Jolly Roger - Langata
Have you tried the Jolly Roger in Langata? It's next to Mamba Village on Langata South Road. There is an entrance fee to pay of around 50/- or 100/-, but it's open air, there's a bit green space there, lots of bouncy castles, a sand pit, restaurant, small swimming and paddling pool etc. Great for small children. Trying going along on afternoons or weekends.
The Primate Centre - Karen
Near the Karen Blixen museum right at the end of Karen Road. You can go for family forest walks here and picnics. There may be some sort of booking process to do in advance and there's definitely a small entrance fee.
The Arboretum - Kileleshwa
The Nairobi Arboretum on Arboretum drive is nice for walks and picnics too. No playground. Again, there is an entrance fee.
The Safari Walk - Langata. Nairobi National Park, main gate.
Not to be confused with the animal orphanage, the safari walk is very nicely laid out with animals in more sympathetic green settings (than at the rather fenced-in orphanage). It takes around 45mins to go round the whole thing, you can take a guide or otherwise go for a wander without one. There are enough animals to keep up a small child's interest for the duration, pygmy hippos, crocodiles, cheetah, lion, rhino, buffalo, zebra etc. The paths are fine gravel - you would be able to push a pushchair round, no problem. There are also lots of strategically placed benches for rests.
Restaurants with good gardens/play areas
Osteria - Karen. Has a big garden, but unfenced swimming pool too.
Talisman - Karen - nice big garden with one swing...
Carnivore - Langata. There is a large play area here but it's a bit concrete. There's also a waterslide park and go-cart track. Poss. better for older kids.
Hope this helps!
