any experience with The Gables in Westlands?
Hi! Rich just got back from Nairobi this evening, and he found that The Gables furnished apartments in Westlands may be the most convenient for us for the short-term. Has anyone ever stayed there? I'd love to hear any feedback.
For the US expats out there, we have an allowance to ship stuff by sea. I know how long it's supposed to take, but I'd like to know how long it will REALLY take!
thanks!

The Gables
Don't know the Gables in Westlands, but am sure it will be a good starting point. Also re shipping - - not sure but clearing containers this end is generally a lengthy business and could take a month or so to process after it has arrived in Kenya. Anyone else have a clue?

Shipping your belongings to Kenya SUCKS! Not just because of the vast corruption and incompetent shipping agents, but two other things...
First, the chance your Maersk vessel could get hijacked off Somalia or Northern Kenyas coast. That could add God knows how long. Second, due to the drought, there will be priority given to all other vessels (provisional type loads) other than goods shipped...
Our experience with our friends here is if they say it is 62-67 days quoted, add at least another 45 days...minimum. IF for some reason it arrives sooner, great! Probably not though.
We have a great shipping guy we worked with to get airfreight through customs and our dog and cat airfreighted in. If you are interested, I will post his info to you?
