antique auctions or shops Empty Finding Antiques in Nairobi

Hi there,

The antique auctions take place quarterly, on a Saturday morning (10am to 1pm) down in Langata/Karen. The last few have been in Gogo Falls lane (where the antique auction offices are), which is off Koitibos Road - follow signs to the Giraffe Centre, the before arriving at Giraffe Manor, take a left hand turn at Gogo Falls Lane (it's signposted). Follow road along and then it bends sharply at a right angle. Antique Auctions is the last house on the LHS.

The 'collectors' auctions themselves are small (around 300 lots) and it's a real lottery as to what you find there.

Antique Auction also run 'homemakers' auctions (monthly?) in a go-down located on Mombasa Road. Here they sell quite a lot of embassy furniture etc that has to be replaced every few years - so everything in reasonable condition - from sofas to American fridge freezers.

Your best bet would be to contact Antique Auctions by phone:

Angus Parkinson does the collectors auctions: Mobile: +254 (0)721 429 939 (Kenya)
Skype: angusparkinson

Or for general enquiries: Antique auctions, Salabani Cottage, Langata, P O Box 15000, LANGATA 00509, NAIROBI,
Tel/Fax: 891519 - 0722514591. aauction@iconnect.co.ke

Alternatives
If you are looking for top end antique furniture, then you could try 'Henry West Furniture' - he has a smart showroom on Mombasa Road.

Also pricey, but more of an Asian treasure trove type place would be 'Odds and Ends' with antiques from Zanzibar etc - also located on Mombasa Road. Both of these numbers should be in the Nairobi yellow pages/phone book.

I understand that there's also an antiques place in Muthaiga somewhere (Muthaiga mini market shops?) owned/run by a guy called Nelson.

I also love the indian antique shop upstairs in ABC Place shopping centre on Ngong Road above Java (warning - he closes at lunch time!). He has great chandeliers, brass light fittings, clocks, Maastrict ceramic dishes/vases, marble top tables, silver coins, etc.

Good luck!

Very Happy

Isn't the shop you are referring to at Adams Arcade (and therefore can be combined with a trip to the Love Shack Charity Shop and the Toi Market for those of who love hunting for treasures) and not ABC Place? I haven't been to the first floor of ABC Place, so perhaps I am mistaken. But the shop in Adams Arcade is always interesting- I covet that wooden swinging crib, and I don't even have a baby.

You are absolutely right!! It is Adams Arcade, not ABC. I love that shop - always see something lovely, then find next time that it's gone. In spite of looking like such a disorganised mess - he must be doing a good trade.
